This has been such a great project. Reposted from our partner Coos Watershed Association:
“#fieldfriday update from the Tioga Creek restoration team: this month, our contractor (TNT Construction and Excavation) placed new bridges over tributaries to the creek, which replaced old, failing culverts that were removed in 2021. Bridges allow for free flow of water and better transport of sediment, along with providing much better fish passage to upstream spawning and rearing habitat. If these bridges look unique, it’s because they’re repurposed railcar bridges, which can be a quick, effective way to get a bridge in place! Thank you to Forest Investment Associates and @masonbrucegirard for partnering with us on this project!”\

Field days often reveal more than what’s on the map. Recently, our foresters wrapped up a timber check cruise on scattered parcels in SW Oregon. Our role was to audit contractor cruise data and revisit plots to identify any potential discrepancies.
